VERN Spring 2026

We're excited to invite you to join a number of exciting new courses for Vern Spring 2026! Here are some examples:

Through interactive lectures, engaging activities, games, and hands-on workshops, students will gain valuable experience in each subject. All classes will be hosted online over Zoom and students will receive email with all class information around half a week before the start date. Questions may be directed to verntutoringclassroom@gmail.com.

Math Class

Pre-Algebra

Instructor: Saisha Verma

Schedule: April 18 - June 13th

Time: Saturdays from 1 PM - 2 PM Central Time

Grade Level: 6th to 8th

Algebra is an important concept to make sense of our everyday world. Pre-Algebra is a course designed for students who might need some more practice before taking Algebra I. In this course, students will review and learn important concepts in math before transitioning to some algebraic ideas.

Grade Level: 5th to 7th

Jump in to uncover the secrets of life itself! Introduction to Biology serves as an opportunity for interested students to learn about how living things grow, adapt, and interact. This course builds an understanding on the systems that sustain life, and what gave rise to its information. Through activities and case studies, students will learn to ask meaningful questions, challenging existing biological knowledge to view the living world as one brimming with patterns, networks, interactions, and much more.

Time: Thursdays from 7 PM - 8 PM Central Time

Grade Level: 7th to 10th

This course builds on basic biology and helps students understand how living things work at a deeper level. Students will learn about cells, genetics, evolution, and how different body systems function together. Lessons include simple explanations, real-life examples, and practice questions to help prepare for tests and labs. By the end, students will feel more confident explaining how life works—from tiny cells to entire ecosystems.

Grade Level: 6th to 10th

This course helps students learn how to speak, read, and write in Spanish. Students will practice everyday vocabulary, grammar, and conversation skills through interactive activities. The goal is to build confidence in understanding and using Spanish in real-life situations, while also learning about Spanish-speaking cultures.

Introduction to Geometry

Grade Level: 6th to 8th

Ready to unlock the patterns that shape our world? In Introduction to Geometry, students explore the fundamentals behind shapes, space, and design. This course teaches how to think logically, visually, and cohesively, and will connect geometry to the real world in a series of challenges. With a focus on in-depth explanations and clear reasoning, this course helps students build a foundation in math that goes far beyond formulas. By the end, students will see the world through the lens of lines, angles, and possibilities.

Introduction to Physics

Instructor: Maddie Chen

Grade Level: 6th to 8th

Discover what forces surround us in our everyday lives! In Introduction to Physics, students will experience a deep-dive into the laws that help govern the movement of energy, light, matter, and more. Students will explore creative applications of physics into our everyday lives, building strong analytical skills along the way. By the end, students will be able to understand the science behind many of the objects around them.

Time: Tuesdays from 7 PM - 8 PM Central Time

Grade Level: 1st to 5th

What is art? How do we make it? Why do we make it? Elementary Art is a class for all students, returning or not, to exploring these questions. Through this class, students will learn to design projects, focusing on their creative abilities and learning various art techniques. We will investigate the purpose of art, and the joy it can bring.

Schedule: October 29 - December 17

Time: Wednesdays from 5 PM - 6 PM Central Time

Grade Level: Any

In Research and Discovery, students will learn to ask meaningful questions and find answers through evidence-based inquiry. From formulating a hypothesis to gathering data about results to presenting the findings, this class will teach every stage of the research process, essential in any discipline. By investigating real-world issues with constructive feedback from experienced tutors, students will understand research as a mindset that empowers them to explore and contribute novel ideas to society.

Grade Level: 5th to 8th

Explore the basics of algebra—using numbers, symbols, and equations to solve problems. You’ll learn how to work with variables, simplify expressions, and solve equations step by step. Algebra helps us understand patterns, make predictions, and solve real-world issues. Don't worry if it seems tricky at first! With practice, you'll see how fun and useful algebra can be.

Adult Students

Literary Analysis

Instructor: Noah and Denver

Schedule: October 31 - December 19

Time: Wednesday from 7 PM - 8 PM Central Time

Grade Level: 5th to 8th

This course helps students learn how to better understand and think deeply about what they read. Students will practice analyzing stories, poems, and other texts by looking at themes, characters, symbols, and the author’s purpose. The class also focuses on improving writing skills, especially how to clearly explain ideas and support them with evidence from the text. By the end, students will feel more confident reading challenging material and writing strong essays for school

Introduction to Chemistry

Grade Level: 6th to 10th

In this course, students will explore the fundamental principles of chemistry, from understanding atomic structures to investigating chemical reactions and bonding. Through interactive experiments, they'll delve into the building blocks of matter and explore how substances change and interact in the world around them. This class will build a strong foundation for future science courses.

Math Maniacs

Instructor: Emily Mei

Schedule: April 13 - June 8th

Time: Sundays from 6 PM - 7 PM Central Time

Grade Level: 6th to 8th

Math Maniacs is a nine-week AMC 8 enrichment class designed for students in Grades 5–7. This course is targeted towards students who can score a 15 or above on the AMC 8, as it will cover more advanced topics such as the Pigeonhole principle, logarithms, diophantine equations, and more! The course also introduces fun and effective math tricks, clever strategies, and logical thinking techniques. With a focus on making math engaging and approachable, Math Maniacs helps build confidence and curiosity in young mathematicians.
